Aside from a few km either side of Fuente de Cantos then arriving into Villafranca de los Barros I spent the whole day road-side, on the generous hard shoulder of the N630. Roadsides have advantages; efficient way to clock miles and you can generally see your target some distance away from reaching it. They also have donwsides; traffic (although it has to be said Spanish drivers are very friendly and considerate), unforgiving surface and camber.
The camber in particular, after literally hundreds of thousands of steps, starts to niggle. That much foot-fall with one leg slightly longer/ shorter than the other does take its toll. As such my ligaments/ tendons in the left leg are complaining a little. Nothing serious, but I am looking forward to getting some more off-road miles in to compensate.
After the vicious weather and lively terrain of the last couple of days it was nice to get a rapid days effort in and maximum recovery. The day was unexpectedly shorter due to an issue on the route of the Via de la Plata to Zafra. This re-routed to the Villafranca de los Barros road – where I am staying tonight. So I just kept on it! I was astonished that a re-route would cause a reduction in daily mileage – the last one certainly did not! A welcome surprise and aiming for Mérida tomorrow.
Has to be said the Hostel I am staying in is aces, have a peek yourself if you’re interested, photos at top of this link.
Also, here’s another link worth having a look at, maybe send to a wealthy aunt? Or offload some company cash before the financial year end? Or dump some burdensome monies ahead of a pre-nuptial or settlement agreement?
Whatever really; Dove Step 3 JustGiving.
